According to eyewitnesses and police sources, BNP leaders and activists led by district BNP convener Hafizur Rahman tried to take out a protest procession from in front of the party office at around 12 noon as part of a central program to protest the killing of Hifazat workers in police firing. When some policemen present at the time tried to stop them, clashes broke out between the police and BNP leaders and activists. At one stage, when the police started baton charging, the BNP leaders and activists dispersed.
