POBNEWS24, Dhaka June 15, 2022 : Friday at 10:30 p.m. As soon as we entered Hatirjheel from Lake Drive near Police Plaza in Gulshan, the number of vehicles was very low. Around Hatirjheel, one police patrol vehicle was spotted in Madhubag area and two in Kunipara part of Tejgaon.

Sumon, a restaurant worker in Kunipara, said the body was found a few days ago, so now a police car arrives.

According to locals, the capital’s favorite entertainment center is becoming completely unprotected at night. In case of any incident, the police are active for some time. But at night there is nothing to say about security. Criminals are taking this opportunity. Bodies are being dumped in Hatirjheel. The body of Abdul Bari, producer of private television DBC News, was recovered last Wednesday. Suicides often occur. The scoundrels tease the visitors by chatting. Some young people driving risky rides. Accidents happen often. In the dark part, there are drug dens and anti-social activities. There are no CCTV cameras in the whole area.

Hatirjheel police station has no separate statistics on crime in the lake area. However, according to police, hospitals, media and local sources, hundreds of people have been killed in road accidents in Hatirjheel since the inauguration on January 2, 2013. Hundreds were injured. There have been at least 20 suicides. There have been at least 20 murders.

After leaving his rented house in Mohakhali on the night of June 6, the bloody body of DBC producer Abdul Bari was found in the lake behind the police plaza. Gulshan Deputy Commissioner (DC) Asaduzzaman said, “I hope we can arrest those involved soon. ‘

Earlier on January 19, Habib Rahman, a senior reporter of Daily Time, died mysteriously in Hatirjheel late at night. Police recovered his motorcycle unharmed. Police recovered the floating body of a woman named Asma Begum on February 25. On January 15 last year, the body of a young man with his hands and feet tied floated in Hatirjheel.

The body of Azizul Islam Mehedi, a student of a private university in Chittagong, was recovered from Hatirjheel near Merul-Badda on October 12, 2020. In the same year, another man named Shipon Hasan was killed in a dispute. One body was recovered from Kunipara Lake in Hatirjheel on 21 September 2019 and a half-dead body was recovered on 10 September 2015.

Abdur Rahman, a resident of the metropolitan residential project, said the Hatirjheel area became deserted as night fell. There is no police patrol on the streets. Talented youngsters roam around on motorcycles. The incident of snatching took place. The lights are not on in some areas on the shores of the lake.

Locals say there are at least 36 lanes in Hatirjheel, Begunbari, Kunipara, Tejgaon, Badda, Ulan, Mahanagar and Madhubag areas. There are some dark areas on and around the bridges.

Hatirjheel was the center of a reported incident of trafficking and torture of a young girl in India last year. The girl’s father filed a case with Hatirjheel police station. RAB arrested Anik Hasan alias Hero Anik, an associate of Tiktak Hridoy, the main accused in the incident. Investigators said that the main task of the ring was to blackmail the lovers who came to visit Hatirjheel. Many young women have fallen into their trap.

Some youths are driving recklessly in Haritjheel area. When the night is deep, their anagona increases. Accidents happen often. Hundreds have died in reckless driving in 9 years.

Hatirjheel Project Director Jamal Akhtar Bhuiyan said, “Many people are complaining about snatching, accidents as well as offensive chats of children. We are also aware of this. ‘

When asked, Hatirjheel Police Station OC Abdur Rashid told Kaler Kantha, “We patrol vigorously on Thursday and Friday nights. There are two check posts on each side. There is a mobile team, stays all day. I also control the movement after 12 o’clock at night. I identify the criminals and arrest them. ‘
