POBNEWS24, Dhaka Dec 12, 2024 : Saudi Arabia will host the 2034 World Cup alone. The 2030 World Cup will be held in six countries across Europe, Africa and Latin America. FIFA confirmed this at its general congress on Wednesday. The announcement was made by the president of world football’s governing body, Gianni Infantino, while joining the virtual congress.
Saudi Arabia has won the uncontested right to host the 2034 World Cup. This means that the complicated process of selecting the host country has been resolved in a single bid.
On the other hand, the six countries that are jointly hosting the 2030 World Cup are Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay.
Spain, Portugal, and Morocco had previously submitted bids for the 2030 event. Although they initially showed interest, three Latin American countries, Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay, withdrew from the competition to win the hosting rights.
At the last minute, FIFA added Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay. FIFA said that since Uruguay hosted the first edition of the World Cup in 1930, they wanted to keep Uruguay in the 2030 World Cup, which is the centenary of football. FIFA added Argentina and Paraguay to Uruguay.
Only one match will be played in each of the three Latin American countries. And that too in the early stages. The opening match will be in Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay. The match will be played at the venue of the 1930 World Cup final.
Except for the opening three matches, all the remaining matches will be held in the two European countries of Spain and Portugal and the African country of Morocco.
