POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Jan 10, 2022 : At least six people have been killed in road and train accidents in Kushtia and Tongi in Gazipur district in Bangladesh.
In Kushtia four people including three women, were killed when a speeding sand truck hit them in Battail Dakshinpara area of Kushtia-Jhenaidah highway.
The accident took place around 5:30 am on Monday.
According to police and eyewitness sources, the four-passenger van collided head-on with a speeding truck en route to Jhenaidah on the Kushtia-Jhenaidah highway. The three passengers and the van driver died on the spot.
The deceased were identified as Muktar Hossain, son of Hojel Hossain of Swastipur area of Kushtia Sadar upazila, Jasmine Akter, wife of Azizul Haque of the same area, Rozina Khatun, daughter of Vadu Mollah of Haldapara area of Alampur and Swapna Khatun, wife of Manoranjan.
Kushtia Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Idris Ali said the van collided with a Jhenaidah-bound speeding truck leaving Kushtia. Four people were killed on the spot. Their bodies were later recovered and sent to Kushtia General Hospital morgue. The truck was seized. The deceased were identified as three women workers.
On the other hand, two people were killed when a train collided with a separate vehicle at Tongi in Gazipur.
The incidents took place in Gazibari and Bu Bazar areas of Tongi on Sunday night.
One of the dead was an old woman and the other was a young woman. Their ages are approximately 65 and 25. The identities of the dead were not immediately known.
Tongi Railway Police Outpost Sub-Inspector Nur Mohammad said the Dhaka-bound Parabat Express from Sylhet was passing through Gazibari area of Tongi around 10:30 pm. The old woman was seriously injured when the train hit her. She was later rescued and taken to a local hospital, where he died. A young woman was killed on the spot when a train hit her in Tongi’s Boubazar market area around 12 pm.
