POBNEWS24, Dhaka Jan 10, 2024 : The High Court has directed to remove the famous song of poet Nazrul Islam titled ‘Karar Oi Louh Kapat’ which was remade by AR Rahman in Bollywood movie ‘Pippa’ from social media.
The High Court bench of Justice JBM Hasan and Justice Raziq Al Jalil gave this order on Tuesday.
On December 6, 10 Supreme Court lawyers and Barrister Mohammad Humayon Kabir filed this writ on behalf of Law and Life Foundation.
The 10 lawyers of the Supreme Court are: Bayezid Hossain, Naeem Sardar, Barrister Solaiman Tushar, Barrister Mahdi Zaman, Barrister Sheikh Moinul Karim, Barrister Ahmed Farzad, Shahidul Islam, Md. Shahed Siddiqui, Md. Anas Mia and Md. Bahauddin Al Imran.
In the writ, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology and the Chairman of BTRC, have been made defendants.
Earlier on November 19, Dhaka Judge court senior lawyer and prominent Nazrul researcher and artist Billal Hossain Jwell sent a legal notice to immediately remove or block the AR Rahman version of the song ‘Kara Oi Louh Kapat’ from Facebook, YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime, OTT platforms, websites and other social media in Bangladesh.
The writ was filed as there was no response to the legal notice.
The Bollywood movie ‘Pippa’ is based on the story of the great liberation war of 1971. It has used the remake of poet Nazrul Islam’s famous song ‘Karar Oi Louh Kapat’.
It should be noted that the song ‘Karar Oi Louh Kapat’ was compiled in the book ‘Bhangar Gan’ by the national poet of Bangladesh, Kazi Nazrul Islam, which was published in 1924.
On November 11, 1924 after its release, the British government banned it. After the independence of India, the song was published again.
