POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Jan 29, 2024: Chairman of Grameen Telecom and Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Muhammed Yunus should appear before the lower court and surrender and ask for bail, said the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer.
On Monday (January 29) at pm, the lawyer of the ACC gave this information.
Earlier, ACC has given a charge sheet to the court against 14 people, including Muhammad Yunus, on charge of embezzling money from Grameen Telecom’s workers welfare fund.
On May 30 last year, ACC filed a case against 13 people including Muhammad Yunus.
Gulshan Anwar, deputy director of the organization, filed the case as the main plaintiff.
The defendants in the case are: the chairman of Grameen Telecom Muhammad Yunus, managing director Nazmul Islam, director and former managing director Ashraful Hasan, Directors Parveen Mahmud, Nazneen Sultana, Md. Shahjahan, Nurjahan Begum and director S. M Hajjatul Islam Latifi.
In addition, Advocate Md. Yusuf Ali, Advocate Zafrul Hasan Sharif, President of Grameen Telecom Sramik-Karmachari Union. Kamruzzaman, general secretary Feroz Mahmud Hasan and representative Md. Mainul Islam have been made an accused.
According to statement of the case, in the presence of Dr Yunus, managing director Nazmul Islam and other board members at the 108th board meeting on May 9, 2022, an account was opened at the Gulshan branch of Dhaka Bank.
A settlement agreement was signed between Grameen Telecom Employees’ Union and Grameen Telecom on April 27 of that year for distribution of due dividends for employees of Grameen Telecom.
