POBNEWS24, Dhaka Aug 8, 2024 : Employees of BDR Parivar Sambay Samity Limited have demanded an impartial re-investigation of the 2009 Pilkhana BDR massacre and the hanging of its ‘planner’ Sheikh Hasina. Speakers of the association made this demand in a human chain organized in front of the National Press Club on Thursday (August 8).
President of the association Shafiqur Rahman Jamal said that Sheikh Hasina during the country’s rule organized the killing of army officers in a Durbar ceremony in order to gain India’s trust, confidence and cooperation. We demand an impartial reinvestigation of the killing of 74 people including 57 army officers. Although the government termed the killings as BDR rebellion, it was actually a massacre of army officers.
He said that Sheikh Hasina along with her defense advisor Tarek Siddiqui were the masters of the tragic killing that day. The government itself committed murders and hanged innocent officers and jawans and sentenced hundreds of BDR members to various terms including death penalty and fired about 18,500 jawans. As a result we have been living inhumanely for the past 16 years.
He also said that students, women and children who were agitating for quota reform were shot dead like birds. Apart from the killing of the army and BDR brothers, the symbol of our freedom and sovereignty, the police force, which is responsible for the security of the citizens and society of the state, has also been destroyed to cling to power. We demand that the murderer Hasina and her accomplices be brought to justice. Also, I am demanding reinstatement of the innocent BDR members who were dismissed for not giving false witness.
