POBNEWS24, Dhaka Sept 12, 2024 : Two senior officers of the Bangladesh Army have been dismissed and sent on early compulsory retirement. Army Training and Doctrine Command GOC Lieutenant General Md. Mojibur Rahman was dismissed and Lieutenant General Md. Saiful Alam has been given compulsory retirement.
Last Tuesday, two separate orders were issued by the Ministry of Defense regarding these two officers. The Directorate of Inter-Services Public Relations confirmed the matter.
Lieutenant General Md. Mojibur Rahman previously served as quartermaster general at the army headquarters. He was Additional Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
In July 2016, Mojibur Rahman came into the limelight for conducting ‘Operation Thunderbolt’ during the terrorist attack on Holy Artizan. He later became the Director General of the Special Security Force (SSF).
After the uprising of students in the country, Lieutenant General Md. Saiful Alam was assigned to the Ministry of External Affairs. Before this he was Commandant of National Defense College. He also served as the Quartermaster General of the Army, Director General of the Directorate General of Defense Intelligence (DGFI) and GOC of the 11th Infantry Division.
Earlier on September 4 Lieutenant General Md. Saiful Alam and his wife Lubna Afroz have been ordered to freeze their bank accounts. At the same time, the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), the financial intelligence department of the central bank, ordered the suspension of the bank accounts of their children and owned institutions.
