POBNEWS24, Dhaka Oct 10, 2024 : The Russian House in Dhaka held a seminar on Russia’s Contribution to Education in Bangladesh dedicated to International Literacy Day

The Russian House in Dhaka organized a seminar on Russia’s Contribution to Education in Bangladesh, dedicated to International Literacy Day on October 9, 2024.

Director of the Russian House in Dhaka Pavel Dvoychenkov recalled Russia’s contribution to the independence of Bangladesh. In 1972, friendly relations were established with the Soviet Union. The Soviet Cultural Centre, now Russia House in Dhaka was founded in 1974 to strengthen these ties.

Relations between Russia and Bangladesh are deeply rooted, characterized by a rich exchange of culture, knowledge and educational values. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Russia has played a significant role in the formation of educational opportunities in Bangladesh. Russian institutions have welcomed thousands of students from Bangladesh over the years, offering them a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in a world-class education. These students return home not only with academic knowledge but also with valuable experiences that broaden their prospects and contribute to the future of the country.

He also noted that cooperation between Russia and Bangladesh in the field of science, culture and education continues to develop actively and spoke about the activities of the Russian House, the possibilities of obtaining higher education in Russia under the quota of the Government of the Russian Federation, studying the Russian language at the courses of the Russian House, as well as participation in various youth programs, such as “New Generation” – short-term study tours to Russia for young representatives of public  scientific and business circles.

Literacy is a certain degree of a person’s mastery of reading and writing skills according to the grammatical norms of the native language. This is one of the basic indicators of the socio-cultural development of the population. The concept of literacy has changed historically, expanding with the growth of societal demands for human development – from the simple ability to read to the ability to use basic reading and writing skills to solve everyday and professional problems.

In the second part of the event, the participants were shown the Russia Today documentary “ABear’sTale” about the pilots who raised a bear cub, about caring for the animal and their beliefs, filmed by directors Pavel Baydikov, Dmitry Khrustalev, Anton Meshcheryakov.
