POBNEWS24, Dhaka Dec 15, 2024 : Advisor Salehuddin Ahmed said, “All types of taxes have been reduced on the import of potatoes and onions. But the prices in the market are not decreasing. I am deeply concerned about that. Taxes are decreasing. The price of sugar has probably decreased somewhat in the middle. I told the chief advisor, “I can’t do anything else. It is very difficult to control the price of products and the market.”
The financial advisor expressed his concerns this way at the annual conference of the International Business Forum Bangladesh at the capital’s Gulshan Club on Sunday afternoon.
Saying that the prices of goods increase due to syndicates, Salehuddin Ahmed said, “Political compromise is very difficult. But extortion compromise is very easy. Go to any market, there are two-three types of extortionists, who are from the previous government. I went to Karwan Bazar. It is divided into three parts. There is a compromise there. I was told, break the syndicate. Reduce the prices of goods and make the goods easily available to the buyer. The price that is in the middle, 10 taka brinjal becomes 50 taka. It increases without any reason.”
The financial advisor said, “Middlemen will do their job. But the middleman who touches the truck and says, ‘Give me 500 taka,’ is not a middleman. He is an extortionist.”
