POBNEWS24,Dhaka, Feb 4 , 2025 : The High Court has issued a rule on the bail issue of former ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in a sedition case.
After hearing Chinmoy Das’ bail application on Tuesday (February 4), a bench comprising Justice Md. Atowar Rahman and Justice Md. Ali Reza issued a two-week rule on the bail issue.
Lawyers Apurba Kumar Bhattacharya and Prabir Ranjan Halder argued for the bail application in the court, while Additional Attorney General Anik R. Haque and Additional Attorney General Arshadur Rouf argued for the state.
On October 25, a large gathering of the Sanatani community was held in Chittagong under the leadership of Chinmoy Krishna Das. A few days later, on October 31, a sedition case was filed against him for insulting the national flag. 18 other people were named as accused in the case.
On November 22, another big rally was held in Rangpur under the leadership of Chinmoy. Then, Chinmoy Krishna Das was arrested in Dhaka on November 25 in the sedition case. The next day, when the bail application was rejected, the Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate ordered him to be sent to jail. When the court ordered Chinmoy to be sent to jail, a clash broke out between law enforcement agencies and lawyers and Chinmoy’s followers in Chittagong that day. At that time, lawyer Saiful Islam Alif was hacked to death outside the court premises. Chinmoy has been in jail since then. On January 2, the Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court rejected Chinmoy Das’ bail application. Then, Chinmoy Das applied for bail in the High Court.
