Mir Afroz Zaman, Cox s Bazar POBNEWS24, Mar 14, 2025: The Rohingya people who were forcibly displaced from Myanmar and took refuge in Bangladesh want to return to their homeland, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said. For this, he called on the international community to restore peace in Myanmar.
He said these things after visiting the Rohingya camp in Ukhia on Friday (March 14) afternoon.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said, ‘I got two clear messages from my visit to the Rohingya camps. First, the Rohingya people who are sheltering want to return to Myanmar. The international community must ensure that peace is restored in Myanmar and ensure the rights of the Rohingya and ensure that they are not subjected to any kind of discrimination.’
The UN Secretary-General said, ‘Second, the Rohingya want a better environment in the camps. Unfortunately, many other countries, including the United States, have recently dramatically reduced humanitarian assistance. “This is why we have had to reduce food rations in humanitarian aid. I promise, I will do my best. I will talk to as many countries as possible, so that funds are available and the situation does not get worse.” Stating that he does not expect the international community to forget the Rohingya, he said, “I will raise a strong voice in the international community. Because humanitarian aid for this community is very important for them to live here with dignity.”
