POBNEWS24, Dhaka May 23, 2025 : Bangladesh’s interim government head Dr. Mohammad Yunus and the advisory council have been distrusted by soldiers and junior officers of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. They have made their position known to the public through a press release on Friday (May 23). The issue has already been widely discussed on social media, especially on Facebook. The issue is currently the “talk of the town of Dhaka”. They have demanded the immediate removal of this incompetent government and the formation of a new interim government with representatives of political parties.
After August 5, the government’s term has been about 9 months. During this time, differences of opinion arose between the army and the Yunus government on various issues. Especially on the issues of humanitarian corridor with Myanmar and national security. Soldiers and junior officers of the army, navy and air force have mentioned these issues in the press release.
The armed forces member said, “Every member of the Bangladesh Army and the armed forces is committed to protecting the independence and sovereignty of our beloved motherland Bangladesh. Since July last year, Bangladesh has been going through the most difficult and chaotic time since independence. In the people’s movement that started in July, we, the junior officers and soldiers of the military, did not hesitate to disobey the government’s orders, respecting the feelings and emotions of the general public. We dreamed of a new Bangladesh with a united nation. But how much of the aspirations we wanted to see after the fall of Sheikh Hasina on August 5 have been realized?”
They said, “Every member of the armed forces attaches importance to national unity and strives to provide security to the lives and property of the general public. But we are observing that a group is trying to push the country towards an anarchic state by capitalizing on this revolution of the army and the people through the practice of politics of power and revenge.”
In a press release, the army members said, “Mass cases and mob-terror have taken a blatant form. The unelected and incompetent advisory council has started a serious divisive politics in the country. Those who were not involved in any crime during the turbulent days of August have also been subjected to cases and attacks. The will of mob-terrorists is being reflected in the highest court of the country. These mob-terrorists are constantly making dirty slanderous remarks about the armed forces of Bangladesh, the symbol of national unity. The hearts of many army members are bleeding due to all these false propaganda on social media. Without showing any negative reaction only for the purpose of establishing peace in the country and holding a fair election, we have been continuously digesting the scolding and lies of our children and students and the people who mislead them on the orders of the Honorable Army Chief for so long.
We believe that the country’s economy and politics are currently going through the most terrible and unsuccessful time. Foreign citizenship can be a threat to various sensitive and national security of the country. We are being forced to accept the appointment of such wise people. We believe that the appointment of a security advisor without consulting the army chief is the utmost disrespect of this government towards us.”
The army members said, “We believe that if peace and order cannot be restored among the people of Bangladesh as soon as possible, our independence and sovereignty will be under threat. We have taken a policy decision not to support this failed and unelected government anymore.
No more mob terrorism and political attack cases will be tolerated in the country. No more mass arrests or harassment will be tolerated without proof in the initial investigation. If we want to build a peaceful and prosperous Bangladesh with everyone, we, the armed forces, pledge to stand firmly by the people from today.”
The army members finally stated, “This incompetent government is a threat to the security of the country. We feel the need to immediately remove this advisory council and form a new interim government with representatives of political parties.”
On the other hand, after the resignation of the chief advisor to the government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, and his advisors, the issue of forming a national government is being discussed. Perhaps that is the direction the situation is heading.
