POBNEWS24 Dhaka May 24, 2025 : The interim government led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus is under severe pressure 9 months after taking office. He is also considering resigning. There has been discussion about why he is in such a situation in such a short time. However, Dr. Yunus himself did not say that he would resign, claims NCP convener Nahid Islam. There is also a lively discussion going on in the tea shops of Dhaka’s streets about what kind of game this is. After the meeting of the National Economic Council on Saturday, it was learned that he is not resigning. If Yunus has to resign, he will resign after informing the public about the fallen government and domestic and foreign conspiracies, said advisor Wahid Uddin Mahmud after the meeting.

It comes to light why this government, formed on the basis of everyone’s opinions, came under so much pressure after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5? Why did the question arise about the impartiality of the government’s advisors? Why is there such a distance between the government and political parties, especially the BNP? The BNP has been on the field for a week demanding the swearing-in of BNP leader Ishraq Hossain as mayor. The Chhatra Dal took to the field to demand justice for the murder of their leader and Dhaka University student Shahriar Alam Samya. As a result, the heart of the capital Dhaka, Gulistan, Press Club, Matsya Bhaban and Shahbag areas, came to a standstill. Many political leaders, economists and security analysts believe that if we consider the overall performance of the government in the last 9 months, we can find the reason for the Yunus government coming under pressure. However, all in all, the Yunus government is in a complex situation. Meanwhile, the government’s distance from the army has also increased. India has also closed its land ports for transporting goods to Bangladesh due to its talk about the Northeast. Ruhin Hossain Prince, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Bangladesh, believes that “this is the result of the government’s lack of diplomacy.” On the other hand, soldiers and junior officers of the Bangladesh Armed Forces, including Dr. Mohammad Yunus, have expressed their distrust of the Advisory Council. They made their position known to the public through a press release on Friday (May 23). They demanded the immediate removal of the leaders and the formation of a new interim government with representatives of political parties.
The government’s term has been running for about 9 months since August 5. During this time, differences of opinion arose between the army and the Yunus government on various issues. Especially the issues of the humanitarian corridor with Myanmar and national security. Soldiers and junior officers of the army, navy and air force have mentioned these issues.
The armed forces member said, “Every member of the Bangladesh Army and the armed forces is committed to protecting the independence and sovereignty of our beloved motherland Bangladesh. Since July last year, Bangladesh has been going through the most difficult time since independence. In the movement of the people that started in July, we, the junior officers and soldiers of the military, did not hesitate to disobey the government’s orders, respecting the feelings and emotions of the general public. We dreamed of a new Bangladesh with a united nation. But after the fall of Sheikh Hasina on August 5, the aspiration we wanted to see was not fulfilled.”
They said, “Every member of the armed forces attaches importance to national interests and strives to provide security to the lives and property of the general public. But we are observing that a group is trying to push the country towards an anarchic state by capitalizing on this revolution of the army and the people through the practice of politics of power and revenge.”
In a press release, the army members said, “Mass cases and mob-terror have taken a blatant form. The unelected and incompetent advisory council has started a serious divisive politics in the country. Those who were not involved in any crime during the turbulent days of August have also been subjected to cases and attacks. The will of mob-terrorists is being reflected in the highest court of the country. These mob-terrorists are constantly making dirty slanderous remarks about the armed forces of Bangladesh, the symbol of national security. The hearts of many army members are bleeding due to all these false propaganda on social media. Without showing any negative reaction only for the purpose of establishing peace in the country and holding a fair election, we have been continuously digesting the scolding and lies of our children and students and the people who mislead them on the orders of the Honorable Army Chief.
We believe that the country’s economy and politics are currently going through the most terrible and unsuccessful time. Foreign citizenship can be a threat to various sensitive issues and national security of the country. We are being forced to accept the appointment of such wise people. We believe that the appointment of a security advisor without consulting the army chief is the utmost disrespect of this government towards us.”
The army members said, “If peace and order cannot be restored among the people of Bangladesh as soon as possible, our independence and sovereignty will be threatened.
This incompetent government is a threat to the security of the country. The army members demanded the immediate removal of this advisory council and the formation of a new interim government with representatives of political parties. On Saturday, there was a movement at the Bangladesh Secretariat and several platoons of BGB were deployed in front of the National Revenue Building to stop the movement. Until the writing of this report, members of the law enforcement agencies in white clothes including the BGB were seen guarding.
