POBNEWS24,Dhaka July 19,2025 : For the first time in the history of Bangladesh, the defeated forces of 1971, including Jamaat-e-Islam, and Islamic fundamentalist parties, came together and held a huge public meeting at Suhrawardy Udyan. From where Sheikh Mujibur Rahman called for independence on March 7. In a bloody war of 9 months, the people of this country forced the Pakistani barbaric invading forces and their allies, including the local Jamaat, to defeat the Razakar Al-Badr army. The head of the Pakistani invading forces, General Niazi, surrendered in this garden. At that historical place, that defeated force rose again in a new way through a huge gathering on Saturday. The fall of the Awami League means the resurgence of the defeated forces of 1971 and their allies.” Several lakhs of people from all over the country gathered at that historic place. The defeated forces declared from the rally that the pro-Mujibism and Indian followers of 1971 will be forever uprooted from the soil of Bengal.
The incident of this national rally of Islamic parties including Jamaat Shibir, who are against the spirit of 1971, is the “talk of the town” in Bangladesh. On the other hand, the Bangladesh Chhatra Union has strongly condemned and protested against the incident and the permission given to Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami to hold a rally at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan. The organization has termed this permission as ‘staining the history of the Liberation War’.
In a joint statement on Saturday, the President of the Central Parliament of the Chhatra Union (Party) Mahir Shahriar Reza and General Secretary Bahauddin Shuvo made this comment.
The statement said, ‘Suhrawardy Udyan is a monument to the victory of our Liberation War. On December 16, 1971 This is where the Pakistani invading forces and their domestic allies Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Chhatra Sangha (now Islami Chhatra Shibir), Razakars, Nezam-e-Islam, Al-Badr, Al-Shams forces surrendered. Yet we saw that for the first time in independent Bangladesh, the Jamaat-e-Islami, an organization of genocidal and war criminals, has been allowed to hold a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan by the interim government led by Dr. Yunus. We strongly condemn and protest this decision.’
The leaders of the student union complained, ‘Since assuming office on August 8, 2024, the anti-liberation war stance of the interim government has become clear. Although the Bir Shrestha and Liberation War memorial sculptures have been demolished in various parts of the country, the government has played a silent role.’
The statement further alleged that there is an attempt to distort the history of the Liberation War in textbooks and change the definition of freedom fighters and the Liberation War. In addition, there is an attempt to label those in favor of the Liberation War as ‘friends of the degenerate Awami League’, which is part of a continuous attack on the Liberation War.
The rally was also attended by the National Citizens Party (NCP), a party created by Khokas, and its affiliates, the Kings Party
