POBNEWS24,Desk report Dhaka July 25,2025 : The US has lifted sanctions on allies of the Myanmar junta government. According to a report by the British media Independent, the Trump administration has lifted the sanctions almost silently.
The announcement came shortly after President Donald Trump was praised as a ‘true patriot’. Junta chief General Min Aung Hlaing recently made such comments about Trump. The junta government wrote a letter to Trump on July 11 praising him. The letter was originally sent requesting a reduction in the 40 percent tariff imposed on Myanmar. It said that Myanmar was ready to negotiate with the Trump administration on the tariff.
On Thursday, the US Treasury Department lifted sanctions on four individuals and three companies close to the junta. However, no explanation was given in the order.
The international human rights organization Human Rights Watch (HRW) described the US decision as extremely worrying. The organization said the decision signaled a shift in the US administration’s policy toward Myanmar, where the junta overthrew the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi in 2021 and has engaged in crimes against humanity and genocide.
