POBNEWS24, Dhaka Jun 25, 2021

Earlier, success in US politics was seen in the hands of Bangladeshi Americans in a few other states, but in New York it was elusive. This time two women are going to make history by overcoming that drought. They have overcome the first hurdle of nominating a primary or party candidate in two important elections in New York. The two women, who are running for office from the Democratic Party, are expected to win the final.

They are Shahana Hanif, a new generation of Bangladeshi descent from District 39, New York City, and Soma Saeed, a Queens County Civil Court judge.

Officials have not yet announced the official results. However, they have already received the message of victory from the private results. Democrat-dominated New York has little chance of dominating the Republican Party. As a result, it is being assumed that they will smile at the winner even in the last election.

Shahana Hanif has confirmed party nominations for Council Women and Soma Saeed Queens County judges after the Democratic primary election on Tuesday (June 22), New York local time. George was not elected, he was only nominated by the Democrats. The final fight will be held on November 2. There they will deal with independent candidates, including Republicans.

Since New York’s districts are inhabited by Democrats, primary results matter, election officials say. However, there is no chance to call them the final winners yet. Independent candidates have a record of being elected in city elections in the past. At the same time, those who were the closest candidates this time will also be able to take part in the final election without the party banner. At the same time, according to the rules, if a candidate gets less than 50 percent votes, there is a chance of run-off vote. So after November 2, it can be said whether these two women of Bangladeshi descent are smiling for the last time.

However, in the meantime, the celebration has started in the Bangladeshi community in New York as the two candidates from the Democratic Party have overcome the hurdles of the primary in the important election. The position of Councilman in New York, the world capital, is very important. Earlier in this election, no one of Bangladeshi descent could confirm the party nomination. This time they are also dreaming of a final victory.

At the same time, everyone is hoping that a Bangladeshi candidate will win this highly respected post as a Queens County judge. The election camp of Shahana Hanif and Soma Saeed also got a festive mood after receiving the news of winning the primary privately. However, both the candidates have said that they want to say the final word after the last fight. Their belief is that voters will eventually elect them. They also promised to work for the implementation of their promises if elected.
