POBNEWS24, Dhaka Nov 13, 2025 : The International Crimes Tribunal has fixed the date for the verdict of three accused, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, in the case of crimes against humanity committed during the July-August Movement. The verdict in the case will be announced on Monday, November 17.
On Thursday, at 12:09 pm, a three-member judicial panel led by Tribunal-1 Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder set the date for the verdict. The remaining members of the tribunal are Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Justice Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.
Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam, Prosecutor Mizanul Islam, Gazi MH Tamim, Faruk Ahmed and others appeared for the prosecution in the tribunal.
Former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun is also named as an accused in this case. However, he has given a statement to the tribunal as a public witness. For this reason, the prosecution has left the decision of the tribunal to the decision of the tribunal, even though it has sought the death penalty or maximum sentence for Sheikh Hasina and Kamal.
In this case of the International Crimes Tribunal, the prosecution has brought five charges of crimes against humanity against them. These include incitement, use of deadly weapons, killing Abu Sayeed, killing in Chankharpul and burning bodies in Ashulia. The formal charge is a total of 8,747 pages. Of this, references are 2,018 pages, seizure list and documentary evidence are 4,05 pages and details of the list of martyrs are 2,724 pages. 84 people have been called as witnesses. On May 12, the investigation agency of the tribunal submitted the report of this case to the Chief Prosecutor.
Meanwhile, the Awami League had a Dhaka lockdown program on Thursday to focus on the date of Sheikh Hasina’s trial at the International Crimes Tribunal on charges of crimes against humanity in the July coup. Although there were fears of day-long sabotage, no such incident occurred. However, on Tuesday and Wednesday, fundamentalists attacked and vandalized several places, and law enforcement agencies made large-scale arrests. The Workers’ Party of Bangladesh (WPB) office was attacked and vandalized, the party said on Thursday. The Politburo of the Workers’ Party of Bangladesh (WPB) said that on Wednesday night from 11 pm to 12:30 am, the central office of the Workers’ Party was attacked and vandalized by government-backed mob terrorists.
The statement said, in the name of resisting the lockdown announced by the ‘Awami League’, at 11 pm on Wednesday, November 12, about a hundred people in support of Dr. Yunus, chanting slogans of Naray-e-Takbir and demanding the hanging of Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon, attacked and vandalized the Workers Party central office. The party office located on Topkhana Road was attacked for about an hour and a half. Office assistant Monir Hossain was beaten up, mobbed and given a bomb in his hand, and handed over to the police after informing the police in advance. The incident did not stop here, they went to the office at night and locked it and took it over. They put up a signboard of the Anti-Fascism Research Center on the office door. They continued to spread panic in the alley of the party office and tried to attack Workers Party leaders and activists. Although police assistance was sought in this incident, they maintained silence.
The Politburo thought without any reason that Dr. Yunus had paved the way for a new fascism of revenge instead of establishing democracy. With his help, all the extremist right-wing forces, including all the militant terrorists, are united and attacking all the forces of the liberation war and independence consciousness.
The leaders demanded a fair investigation and trial of the incident of the attack on the Workers’ Party office and the release of office assistant Monir Hossain.
At noon, an angry crowd set fire to some abandoned banners and garbage at the Awami League central office in Gulistan. At that time, they also vandalized there. The roads of Dhaka city were completely empty. Two or three private company buses and BRTC buses were seen plying. Parents did not send their children to schools, colleges and educational institutions. There was no crowd in the office court either. Even though the Awami League was not on the field, the people of Bangladesh believe that their announced lockdown program has been successful.
On the other hand, Professor Dr. Mohammad Yunus gave a speech to the nation. He said that voters will vote ‘yes’ or ‘no’ on a single question on four issues. The political division in the country over the question of when the referendum will be held before the national elections or on the day of the elections had become clear for the past few days, and despite the political parties being asked to discuss and resolve the issue among themselves, no result has been achieved.
The decision came from the head of the interim government.
The chief advisor announced the decision on the national elections and referendum in his address to the nation on Thursday afternoon.
He said that the referendum will be held on the day of the next national elections. Where a vote will be held on a single question on four issues.
The chief advisor also mentioned that if the referendum is held on the day of the national elections, the goal of reforms will not be hindered in any way, but the elections will be more “festive and affordable”.
