POBNEWS24, Dhaka Nov 16, 2025 : The February election will be held peacefully and is likely to be the most trouble-free election in recent times, said Shafiqul Alam, the press secretary to the chief advisor. He believes that three recent incidents have further strengthened this belief.
In a status posted on his verified Facebook account on Saturday morning, he wrote that the grassroots structure of the Awami League has collapsed or merged with rival parties. As a result, they practically do not have the power to disrupt the election. He mentioned three incidents in the status.
1. BNP’s nomination announcement is peaceful
Many feared that major chaos could arise if the BNP released the list of parliamentary candidates. It was thought that dissatisfied aspirants would protest or clash with supporters of the party’s nominated candidates. But apart from one or two minor incidents, the entire process was surprisingly peaceful.
This proves that the BNP leadership had made sufficient preparations. The widespread acceptance within the party of the nomination suggests that the chances of a party clash during the campaign or the vote are very low.
2. The limitations of the Awami League’s capacity are clear
The Awami League has long claimed that it has a strong grassroots network that can disrupt any election if it wants to. But recent events have shown that its actual field-organizational capacity is very limited. The party now largely relies on hired troublemakers who can do things like setting fire to abandoned buses, holding short-lived rallies, or spreading AI-based confusion on social media.
As a result, the party has effectively become a Facebook-dependent protest group with no significant organizational power on the ground. According to my long-term observations, their grassroots have either broken down or merged with rival parties. In this reality, they no longer have the strength left to disrupt the election.
3. The police and administration are more organized and prepared
The law and order situation in the country has visibly stabilized in the past few months. This has given new confidence to the police, security forces and field administration, including DC, SP, UNO, OC and everyone concerned. The most skilled and experienced officials have been given the responsibility of supervising the election. I am sure that they will be able to organize a peaceful and orderly election as per the expectations of the nation.
