POBNEWS24, Dhaka Dec 20, 2025 : Inquilab Manch convener Sharif Osman Hadi has been buried next to the tomb of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam next to the central mosque of Dhaka University.
Hadi was buried at 4 pm on Saturday. Earlier, Hadi’s funeral prayer was held at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building of Bangladesh. Lakhs of people flocked to this funeral. However, chaos erupted around this funeral! As soon as the prayers ended, many people tried to run into the National Parliament Building. Later, they were restrained by the intervention of the army. The army members stationed there stopped them. The incident took place at around 2:30 pm according to Bangladeshi local time. Within moments, the army surrounded the gates leading to the parliament. Tight security was tightened on all four sides of the building. The army members kept requesting everyone to leave through microphones. They stood in front of the army for a while. Later, however, it gradually began to empty.
On Saturday afternoon, Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh, was present at Hadi’s funeral at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building of Bangladesh. In addition, various political figures and members of the Advisory Council were present. Lakhs of people gathered in front of the Parliament Building to pay their last respects to Hadi.
Before the prayer, Dr. Yunus said, “We have not come to bid you farewell today. You are in our hearts, in the hearts of all Bangladeshis.” At this time, Hadi’s family and members of the Inqilab Mancha demanded the arrest and extreme punishment of Hadi’s killers.
After the funeral, Hadi’s body was taken to Dhaka University at around 3:30 pm. There, the young leader was buried next to the tomb of poet Kazi Nazrul Islam in the Central Mosque. Several teachers and prominent figures have been buried in that specific premises of the university. This time, Hadi also got a place there.
Among others present during the burial were Dhaka University Proctor Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, Treasurer Professor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Jatiya Nagorik Party’s Akhtar Hossain, Hasnat Abdullah, Nasir Uddin Patwari and Hadi’s family members. It is worth noting that Osman Hadi was attacked while riding a rickshaw in front of the Bijoynagar water tank in Dhaka at around 2:15 pm on December 12. At that time, two men on a motorcycle shot him at close range and fled. Later, he was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College in a critical condition. At one stage, he was transferred to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka at the request of his family. He was then treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) there. Later, Hadi was taken to Singapore by air ambulance on Monday for advanced treatment; he died there last Thursday.
