POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Jan 11, 2026 : BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul is not accepting BCB Director Asif Akbar’s comments about playing in the World Cup. However, they are still adamant on wanting to play the World Cup outside India. The board chief hopes that everything will be fine.
There has been a stir over the Bangladesh team not going to India to play the World Cup for the past few days. The board directors are also expressing their position in various ways through various media. BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul was asked about a similar comment by BCB Director and singer Asif Akbar.
He was asked, “Director Asif Akbar said that if you don’t play a World Cup, something like this happens, do you also feel the same way?”
BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul told this reporter on Sunday that he was not aware of such a comment. Later, he added, “The World Cup is an opportunity, I will try to play.” Everything will be fine, God willing….
He said that the BCB is now waiting for it to be fixed. The board has identified the places of security crisis in India and sent an e-mail to the ICC. The news and video links of the threats that various political, religious and various organizations in India have made in the past few days have been attached to that email. Apart from that, the Indian media has also spread various kinds of confusion about Bangladesh.
The BCB chief said that they are waiting for a response.
‘We have not received any response yet. We have given all the information that we were supposed to give. Now we are waiting for the ICC’s response.’
The former captain, who has worked in the ICC’s development department for a long time, believes that they can get a response by Monday or Tuesday.
Kolkata is the venue for Bangladesh’s three matches in the World Cup, where security concerns are believed to be the highest. Aminul said that the BCB will not accept it even if it is offered to play in any other city in India outside Kolkata.
“The other venues in India are also in India. So the venue is not a big deal.”
“You know that we are not taking any decision on this World Cup alone. We will discuss it with the government and we are still where we stood.”
Aminul believes that the ICC will not be interested in hosting the World Cup without Bangladesh.
“I believe that Bangladesh is a big team in world cricket. The way we have been playing for the last 25 years, playing in the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy or playing in the quarter-finals of the 2015 World Cup, all in all, Bangladesh is definitely a big team. And since the game is being played in the subcontinent, that is an added advantage for us.”
Aminul can feel how difficult the job of the BCB chief is in the recent turbulent situation off the field, the storm of controversies.
BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul said, “The way I thought before coming, I see it completely different now. I used to work on the development of cricket earlier, but this work is completely different. I am learning every day. The days are going by like a six-ball over, sometimes I am hitting fours, sometimes I am getting beaten, but I am not out yet.”
Aminul was the chief guest at the unveiling of the jersey and trophy of the ‘GNC School Cricket’ tournament organized by the Sylhet region of the BCB Regional Cricket Center at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Saturday night. He returned to Dhaka on Sunday afternoon.
He also told this correspondent on mobile phone, our players are always sincere towards India because India is our neighboring country and they (India) are always by our side in times of trouble. We got a country called “Bangladesh” because they were by our side in 1971.
I hope everything will be fine. Otherwise, we will go and play abroad. India should think carefully about the matter.
