POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Jul 2, 2021 : Actor and radio personality Kafi Khan is no more. He was (93).The news of Kafi Khan’s death has been confirmed by his latest workplace, the Bangla section of the Voice of America.
Kafi Khan was born on 1 May 1926 in the village of Kazipara in the Barasat subdivision of the 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, British India period. While studying in school-college, he became involved in the practice of recitation. After the partition of the country, he moved to Dhaka and joined the government service as well as drama. After that he became a regular in radio and TV dramas.
At that time, Sultana Zaman and Dr. Kafi Khan played the lead role opposite Raushan Ara. Then he made pictures of you and me, acquaintances of many days, kings and monks, two horizons etc.
Kafi joined the Voice of America in Washington in 1966 as a newsreader. Returning to the country in 1973, he started reading news on Bangladesh Television. In 1975, he won the Bangladesh National Television Award. In 1982, he joined the Voice of America again. He retired in 1994. However, he has been with Voice of America since 1999 as a part-time radio broadcaster.
During the war of liberation in 1971, Kafi Khan played a strong role in the war of liberation in Washington.
From the late seventies to the early eighties, he served as the press secretary to the then military ruler, President Ziaur Rahman.
