POBNEWS24, Chittagong, Apr 29, 2026: Bangladesh was supposed to take the field on Wednesday with the confidence of winning the first match to secure the series. But the second T20 between Bangladesh and New Zealand was washed out in torrential rain in Chittagong. Not a single ball was bowled at the Bir Shrestha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium.
The cut-off time for the start of the match was 4:50 pm. According to the rules, the match officials were supposed to wait until this time, but the decision was made earlier as the intensity of the rain did not reduce and the field was unfit for play. The match referee called the captains of both teams and declared the match abandoned.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has given good news for the spectators who came to watch the match. The board said that those who purchased tickets for the match online will get a refund. Although the spectators who came to the gallery due to rain were disappointed, they are being saved from financial loss.
Bangladesh is leading the three-match series 1-0 after winning the first T20 by chasing a record run. With the second match abandoned, all the excitement is now reserved for the last match. The third and final T20 of the series will be held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on May 2.
That match in Mirpur has now turned into an unwritten final. After the ODI series, the Tigers now have a great opportunity to win the series in the T20 version as well. On the other hand, New Zealand will aim to snatch victory in the last match and restore parity in the series.
