POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Aug 18, 2026 : The country’s top trade organization, the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), has called for utilizing the potential for direct communication and joint investment between Bangladesh and Chinese businessmen to bridge the trade deficit.
FBCCI Administrator Md. Fazlul Haque said this at a meeting held with a business delegation from the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPTI) at the FBCCI’s Motijheel office on Monday (August 17, 2026) afternoon.
In his welcoming speech at the meeting, the FBCCI Administrator said that like other countries around the world, Bangladesh also imports a huge amount of goods from China. Although the current bilateral trade volume between the two countries is close to $20 billion, Bangladesh is facing a huge trade deficit there. Bangladesh exports less than $1 billion worth of goods to the country annually.
Md. Fazlul Haque called for exploring the potential sectors of joint trade between the two countries with entrepreneurs from both countries. He said that this visit of the Chinese trade delegation will not only expand bilateral trade between Bangladesh and China. Rather, it will also increase the export potential of Bangladeshi products to the Chinese market. It will also play an important role in increasing investment between Bangladesh and China.
The FBCCI administrator assured the business delegation that FBCCI will be active in providing overall support to Chinese entrepreneurs in conducting business in Bangladesh.
Taking part in the open discussion at the meeting, the Bangladeshi business representatives called on Chinese entrepreneurs to jointly invest in various potential sectors including food processing, medical devices and accessories, pharmaceuticals and API industry, renewable energy, jute and jute products in Bangladesh.
Mr. He Tao, Director of the Bureau of Commerce of Honghe Region of China, expressed interest in increasing bilateral trade and investment between Bangladesh and China. He said, one of our goals is to further simplify the import-export process between the two countries and open up new possibilities for trade and commerce.
Former FBCCI directors Abdul Haque, Preeti Chakraborty, Obaidur Rahman, FBCCI Secretary General Md. Alamgir, FBCCI Safety Council Advisor Brigadier General (Retd.) Abu Naeem Md. Shahidullah, members of the FBCCI General Council, leaders of various chambers and associations, and other members of the CCPTI delegation were present at the meeting.
