POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Nov 10, 2021: The much awaited carpeting or paving work of Padma Bridge is starting today, Wednesday. Preparations are underway to start pouring pitch near the 40th pillar of the bridge from this morning. Work will start at any time of the day. There is a divider in the middle of the four lane bridge. So carpeting is starting at the west end. Earlier, carpeting was done in a 60 meter section near the 40th pillar of the bridge experimentally. From then on, carpeting will continue towards Munshiganj. This work was completed on October 20 with a waterproof layer.
The responsible executive engineer of the bridge said that an area of 430 meters has been prepared for pouring pitch with waterproof coating. However, on the first day of work on Wednesday, it is not possible to do carpeting in this 430 meter area, but carpeting will be done in at least 100 meter area. On top of the waterproof coating two more layers of 100 mm thick pitch will be cast. However, a layer of 80 mm thickness will be given in the first phase and a second layer of 40 mm thickness will be given in the second phase.
It has been seen that the festive mood is prevailing in the Padma Bridge area around this world class carpeting work. All the goods and materials have been prepared for carpeting at the Jazira end of the bridge. At the beginning of this work, the project director of the Padma Bridge. Concerned engineers including Shafiqul Islam are expected to be present. Apart from carpeting, work is also underway on the parapet wall and divider of Padma Bridge. River governance work is also going on. The work of installing gas line on the east side of the ground floor is also in full swing. After starting the work of gas line from Jazira end, now the process of setting up gas line from Mawa end has also started to complete the work quickly. A gas line is being constructed on the east side of the ground floor and a walkway on the west side. In order to make the Padma bridge suitable for traffic, the work of pitch casting was left. The work on the Padma bridge will be completed before June next year, said the concerned.
