POBNEWS24, Desk report, Nov 24, 2021: Garment workers of various factories are protesting by blocking roads in the capital’s Mirpur. The traffic was stopped when the garment workers took up position at Mirpur Roundabout No. 10 around 10 am on Wednesday. Protesting workers were seen chanting slogans demanding higher wages due to rising commodity prices.
Hundreds of garment workers gathered at Mirpur Roundabout No. 10 at one stage after leaving the factory. At around 10:30 am, a group of workers vandalized a traffic police box. However, no clashes took place between the protesting garment workers and the police.
After that around 11 pm most of the protesting workers started marching towards Mirpur No. 14. Many workers are still on the road. However, some workers have left. None of the workers returned to work. Garment factories in the area are closed. Now the traffic is a bit normal.
Mirpur Divisional Deputy Commissioner ASM Mahtab Uddin has confirmed the blockade of garment workers. He said garment workers had blocked the road. Garment factories from Mirpur 10 to Mirpur 14 are closed as workers take to the streets.
