POBNEWS24, Dhaka Dec 2, 2021 : UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres says the coronavirus is indeed borderless. Guterres made the remarks at a news conference on Wednesday. The news agency AFP reported this information.
The UN Secretary-General has criticized the imposition of travel bans targeting specific countries and territories to prevent the spread of the new type of corona. He termed the issue of travel ban as unfair and ineffective.
Guttierez claims that Corona is a virus that is truly borderless. In that case, the travel ban, which separates a country or a region, is not only seriously unjust and punitive, but also ineffective.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called for an increase in travel tests for travelers, rather than a travel ban.
A new type of corona, amicron, was identified in the African region last week. Amicron has already spread to at least 25 countries around the world.
Since the introduction of the new type, various countries have imposed travel bans on African countries. At least 70 countries and territories have imposed travel bans on several African countries. Large economies, including the United States and the United Kingdom, are among the countries that have imposed sanctions.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has called the new strain of corona “worrying”. Scientists are also concerned about this type.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has said that countries that have reported new types of corona should not be collectively punished for sharing important scientific and health information with the world.
Guterres reiterated his call on governments around the world to implement increased testing for travelers. In this context, he said, other appropriate and truly effective steps should be taken together.
The secretary-general said the only way to reduce the risk of coronary heart disease was to keep travel and economic activity afloat.
No one has yet been able to say for sure how fast the new strain of coronavirus, Amicron, spreads or how effective vaccines are against it. In this context, WHO member states have agreed to formulate new international rules for dealing with possible future global epidemics.
