POBNEWS24, Dhaka, 12, 2022: Awami League mayoral candidate in Narayanganj city corporation election Selina Hayat Ivy has said that she does not have the manpower to exert influence. Ivy denied the allegations made by independent candidate Taimur Alam Khandaker in the election.
During the election rally in Khanpur area of Narayanganj city on Tuesday morning, Ivy said in response to the question of the journalists, ‘People of Narayanganj have known me for 17 long years. I say what I say openly. I chose two more cities. No one can say I have influenced the election. He (Taimur) is campaigning in the election, I am also campaigning. But I don’t know what’s going on outside of that, I don’t want to know. I am with my people at the moment, going to the doorsteps of the voters, asking for votes. ‘ He said, “Narayanganj has a history of the past. People have been able to vote in a festive atmosphere. That atmosphere should be maintained.”
Meanwhile, Awami League MP Shamim Osman announced his candidature for the party’s mayoral candidate at a press conference on Monday. Until yesterday, however, Shamim Osman’s followers were not seen campaigning with Ivy or separately.
However, in Khanpur Boubazar area, the Central Awami League took part in a street rally campaigning for Sagar Pradhan, a councilor candidate nominated by Awami League in Ward No. 12. Khokon Saha, general secretary of Mahanagar Awami League, Zakirul Alam, organizing secretary and Shahadat Hossain, president of Mahanagar Juba League were seen following Shamim Osman.
When asked by reporters about the announcement of Shamim Osman’s resignation, Selina Hayat Ivy retorted, ‘How will he (Shamim Osman) get on the field? He is a Member of Parliament. According to the rules, he will not be able to get down. Ivy said who came from within the team, who didn’t; The team will see that. His confidence is always on the party, the party chief and the people.
At a press conference at a community center on Monday, Awami League MP Shamim Osman announced his candidacy for the boat symbol candidate in the city elections. Shamim Osman lost to Ivy by a margin of more than a million votes in the first city elections of 2011. Ivy was vocal against the various injustices of Osman family including the murder of meritorious student Tanvir Muhammad Twaki in Narayanganj. His conflict with the Osman family is old.
Meanwhile, the Narayanganj Cultural Alliance and the Narayanganj Citizens’ Committee have been campaigning in wards 1 and 5 of Siddhirganj for votes for Ivy
