POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Jan 23, 2022 : Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that Bangladesh Police is working relentlessly to maintain internal peace and order, curb crime and establish rule of law.
He said the role of police in curbing militancy and terrorism, eradication of drugs and smuggling has further enhanced the image of Bangladesh in the world arena. Apart from this, the brave members of Bangladesh Police have been making significant commendable contribution through their active participation in UN peacekeeping operations.
The Prime Minister said this in a message given on the occasion of ‘Police Week 2022’ on Sunday (January 23).
The Prime Minister said, “On the occasion of Police Week-2022, I would like to extend my sincere greetings and congratulations to all the members of the Bangladesh Police Force.” On March 25, 1971, members of the Rajarbagh Police Lines formed the first armed resistance against the Pak aggressors in response to the call of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest Bengali of all time and father of the nation. This marked the beginning of the first armed resistance war of the Great War of Independence. Several of the fearless policemen sacrificed their lives for the country that day. During the war of liberation about 14,000 Bengali police personnel of the police force left their work places and jumped directly into the war of liberation. Among them more than 1,100 policemen were martyred.
He said that recently, 108 fearless policemen have sacrificed their lives in the service of the people to control the situation of Kavid-19. I extend my deepest sympathies and condolences to the police personnel and their families who sacrificed their lives for the country during the great war of liberation and at different times.
Sheikh Hasina said that after the formation of Awami League government, the manpower of Bangladesh Police has been increased step by step. Our government is working to promote and enhance the ranks of the police in order to achieve professional excellence. We have taken effective steps to reduce the complexity of promotion of police officers by creating new posts in Bangladesh Police. At the same time the number of Grade-1 and Grade-2 posts has been increased. Apart from that, we formed Industrial Police Unit in 2010 for the industrial area and Tourist Police Unit in 2013 for the safety of tourists.
“Our government is taking effective measures including allotment of land for construction of police station, outpost investigation center, barracks and residential buildings,” he said. A police hospital has been constructed at Rajarbagh in a 10-storey building for the medical services of police personnel. Police members are receiving medical treatment there. One hospital will be constructed in each department. Arrangements have already been made to purchase two helicopters from Russia to enhance police mobility to three-dimensional levels by acquiring air capabilities. Initiatives have been taken to transform the police force into a modern, up-to-date, efficient and people-friendly force. As a result, the activities of the police members have become dynamic and dynamic.
The Prime Minister further said that serving the people is the sacred duty of every member of the police force. There is no room for affection or dislike. Negligence or moral turpitude is an unforgivable crime. I hope that the members of Bangladesh Police will carry out their duties with efficiency, professionalism and impartiality while upholding human values and will act as a supporting force in building the ‘Golden Bangladesh’ of the Father of the Nation’s dream. I wish the overall success of all the programs of ‘Police Week 2022’.
