POBNEWS24 Dhaka,Fab 1, 2022: Bangladesh hopes to build a peaceful and prosperous Indian Ocean region in the coming days as well as take the existing relations between the two countries to new heights for the welfare of the people and economy of Bangladesh and Australia, said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The Prime Minister of Bangladesh expressed this expectation in a message sent to the Prime Minister of Australia Scott Morrison on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic friendship between the two countries.
In the message, Sheikh Hasina said, “We both want to emerge as important partners and take our relationship to new heights for the benefit of our people and economy as well as building a peaceful and prosperous Indian Ocean region in the days to come.”
“On behalf of the Government and people of Bangladesh and on my own behalf, I am very pleased to extend my warmest greetings to the Government and people of Australia and to the friendly people of that country on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh-Australia bilateral relations.”
Sheikh Hasina gratefully recalled Australia’s immediate recognition of independent Bangladesh in January 1972. He said Australia’s assistance in rebuilding war-torn Bangladesh and its continued support for socio-economic development in the decades to come was invaluable to Bangladesh.
The Prime Minister said Bangladesh has made significant progress in the last five decades since independence and has largely succeeded in eradicating poverty, empowering the people and building an inclusive society.
Sheikh Hasina further said, “We want to consolidate our position as a prosperous modern economy, a responsible country, a democracy, a country striving to build and maintain peace and to strengthen the constitutional international system.”
The Prime Minister said Australia is a reliable partner in achieving socio-economic development of Bangladesh. Bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Australia are based on a common commitment to peace, pluralism and the dignity of the people.
Sheikh Hasina expressed satisfaction over the increase in trade and economic exchanges between the two countries and involvement in education, agriculture, energy sector and people-to-people contacts.
The Prime Minister said there is ample opportunity to build meaningful partnerships as well as strengthen bilateral ties in tackling regional and global challenges such as the COVID-19, investment, services, technology, innovation, climate change, forced human displacement and regional security issues.
