POBNEWS24, Desk Report, Feb 4, 2022 : Today is World Cancer Day. The day is celebrated on 4th February every year through various programs. Today, Friday (February 4), World Cancer Day is being celebrated across the country to create cancer prevention and awareness. On the occasion of the day, this time the theme is ‘Let’s eliminate inequality in cancer services’.
This day is celebrated around the world under the auspices of the Union for International Cancer Control, a non-governmental organization formerly known as the International Union Against Cancer. The organization is headquartered in Geneva and has nearly 2,000 members in more than 160 countries.
The purpose of celebrating the day is to spread awareness about this deadly and deadly disease and to encourage people to help the patients suffering from this disease.
The number of cancer patients in the country is increasing day by day. According to the World Health Organization, 7.2 million people die of cancer each year worldwide. In particular, 100 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer. The alarming news is that most of the victims of this second deadly disease are third world citizens including Bangladesh.
According to experts, cancer is a major disease that needs timely treatment. Every year a huge number of people all over the world including Bangladesh die of this deadly disease. At the same time, they consider the lack of awareness and education and the economic situation as the reasons for the increase in cancer and death rates in Bangladesh.
Physicians believe that regular screenings can help detect cancer early and make treatment easier. The symptoms of cancer depend on where the cancer is, how large it is and how much it affects any organ or tissue nearby. If the cancer has spread, signs or symptoms may appear in different parts of the body.
They say there is a need to increase public awareness about cancer. It is important to be aware of what kind of disease it is, what causes the risk, what to do to prevent it.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Md. Sharfuddin Ahmed said that in order to prevent cancer, there is a need to create awareness among the people. In order to prevent cancer, regular exercise should be emphasized and smoking should be avoided. He also said that regular physical examination should be done to increase the immunity.
