POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Feb 19,2022: From 2023, all the educational institutions of the country will have two days off on Friday and Saturday, said the Minister of Education. Dipu Moni.
He made the remarks at a textbook distribution function at the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) building here on Saturday (February 19) afternoon.
The Minister of Education said that from 2023, there will be two days off weekly leave in educational institutions of all levels. Besides, those who are joining the new curriculum will get two days off a week from now on.
It is known that public holidays are two days a week, Friday and Saturday. But the holiday in the educational institution is only on Friday. The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) proposed extending the holiday.
The proposal says that even if the leave is extended, there will be no harm in the educational activities of the students.
Classes run 215 days a year in the educational institution for the existing weekly holidays and other holidays. If the weekly holiday is declared on Saturday, the class will run for 175 days in the educational institution. Because many Saturdays are public holidays every year.
Earlier, NCTB officials had said that even if there is a two-day holiday, the work hours given to the students at home will not reduce the learning hours. This proposal is made while maintaining international standards.
There were further arguments in favor of two days off, which would reduce the physical and mental stress on the students. In addition, English medium schools and several private schools have two days off per week.
