POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Feb 21,2022: Dhaka University (DU) Vice Chancellor (VC) Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman said that the language loses its originality due to the influence of different languages. So it is very important to use standard language. This requires institutional initiative.
Akhtaruzzaman said this after paying homage to the language martyrs at the central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka around 7.15 am on Monday.
Akhtaruzzaman said, “There is no doubt that the use of mother tongue has increased in Dhaka University and nationally. But what is lacking is the use of refined and sophisticated language. We have some organizations that work on this. It is important for the universities to take special care in this regard. Dhaka University is also concerned about this.
The Vice-Chancellor of DU said, ‘Opportunities to study in Bengali have increased in various branches of science. As the language becomes richer, its ability to master the language increases. We will use standard Bengali language, as it is, we need to be careful to protect foreign and international languages as well.
Akhtaruzzaman said, ‘Foreign language and culture — we need that too. Because, International Mother Language Day is not only a day of martyrdom for Bengali speaking people; This day reminds us of a special value. That is to preserve the endangered language, culture and civilization; To be diligent in preserving the language and culture of the minority nationalities and to be respectful of other languages. Human values teach us a great 21st century. ‘
In response to the question of what Dhaka University is doing in this regard, the Vice Chancellor of DU said, Bangladesh is a country of many cultures. There is a national initiative of the government for the education of the people of small nationalities. There is a quota for these students in the educational institutions. These systems will play a role in preserving their language and culture.
