POBNEWS24, Dhaka Feb 27, 2022 : Russian troops have stormed Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city. The BBC reports citing local government officials.
According to the BBC, Oleg Sinegubov, head of Kharkiv’s regional administration, said some light Russian military vehicles had entered the city.
Before Oleg Sinegubov made the announcement, video footage showed Russian military vehicles moving through the northeastern Ukrainian city.
Oleg Sinegubov, Kharkiv’s regional chief, urged residents to stay indoors on Sunday, saying Russian troops were seen in the city center.
Oleg Sinegubov said: ‘Don’t go out of hiding. The armed forces of Ukraine are destroying the enemy. Civilians are being told not to go out on the streets.
Russia has seized another Ukrainian city, according to media reports. The southernmost town is called Nova Kakhovka. The city is small but strategically important. Crimea is accessible by water through the city. Russia annexed Crimea in 2014.
The city’s mayor, Volodymyr Kovalenko, said Russian troops had taken control of the city’s executive committee and lowered Ukrainian flags from all buildings.
Moscow claims today that Russian forces have taken full control of the southern Ukrainian cities of Kheroshen and the southwestern city of Bardiansk.
Russian news agencies have published a statement from Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov. In a statement, Igor Konashenkov said that in the last 24 hours, both Kheroshen and Bardiansk cities had been completely cordoned off by Russian forces.
