POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Apr 3, 2022 : On the first day of Ramadan, consumers were in gas crisis in different areas of the capital. Although there was gas in some areas, it was not suitable for cooking due to low pressure. As a result, after fasting all day, many people have suffered while making iftar for their family members. The city dwellers have expressed their displeasure over the issue.
The gas crisis was witnessed in several areas of the capital’s Bhatara police station including Dakshin Kuril, Badda, Rampura, Mohammadpur, Rayerbazar, Dhanmondi, Wari, Magbazar, Banasree, Gopibagh, Mirpur and Manikdi on Sunday.
There was no gas in any part of the capital, the stove was burning somewhere. The amount of gas burning in the stove was not enough to make iftar. For this reason, the people of these areas had to buy food from the first iftar shop.
Brinta Pal, a resident of Lichubagan in Dakshin Kuril area, complained to Kaler Kantha, “We had to suffer from gas from 10 am to 6 pm without any prior announcement. Although the stove was ablaze around noon, nothing could be done about this fire. ‘
The same allegation was made by Sufia Khatun of New Market. He said, “It is not desirable to make the customers suffer on the first day of Ramadan. ‘
Meanwhile, the Titas Gas Authority said in a statement this afternoon that the Chevron-run Bibiana Gas Field could cause gas shortages in various areas for emergency maintenance. Experienced engineers are working on the repairs. The situation will return to normal soon. Titus authorities sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to customers.
Petrobangla Chairman Nazmul Ahsan said, “Suddenly there was an accident in Bibiana. There was nothing to do. We are trying to handle the situation. A well repair work was completed by the afternoon. Hopefully three more wells will come into production by tomorrow. Then another well is to be started. However, Chevron said it would take time to repair a well. As a result, there will be a deficit of 60 million cubic feet. On April 7, one of our LNG cargoes will arrive in the country. I hope the situation will return to normal by April 10.
For the same reason, there was a fear of power shortage. Because, almost half of the country’s centers are still generating electricity with gas.
Regarding the supply of gas to the power plants, Nazmul Ahsan said, ‘I am trying to keep the gas supply of the power plants normal. It’s hot now. The demand is higher that time. During Iftar, Tarabi and Sehri, care has to be taken so that there is no power crisis. ‘
