POBNEWS24, Dhaka, June 13, 2022: Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal said that the main word of democracy is position and opposition. What we see through elections is not the government. Then comes the victory that comes to Parliament that is part of the government, the legislator. Legislators but those in the opposition are the treasury benches.
He said this in a briefing after discussions with TIB representatives on Monday (June 13).
The CEC said that the Election Commission will take initiative regarding all the parties participating in the next elections. Everything will be done by the commission in this regard. The government that exists during the election is the government during the election.
Regarding the election-time government, he said, the government that will remain at this time is the election-time government. We have no comment on the demands being made from the opposition. But that is not our concern. It is a constitutional matter. They will see if the political leaders agree. It seems to me that the current law on electoral government is the election government.
The CEC said, “I have told the TIB representatives that the government is obliged to co-operate with us in complying with the existing laws and regulations.” We will seek the help of the government in all elections. I hope the government will cooperate.
He said that in all the countries it is happening under the party government. It’s happening in India, it’s happening in Britain, it’s happening in America. Government but government. Teams are different things. If we can make this division clear, we can give this message, when the cabinet, which is called the deputy from the president or the prime minister, this is the main government. The rest are bureaucrats. Therefore, the government that they have, but they have taken an oath to fulfill their responsibilities according to the constitution, to behave equally, not to be biased.
Mentioning that there should be no trade in the election, he said, it does not mean that one has to be an MP for trade. You have to win the election by bringing nominations. “If everyone is removed from this mentality, our current electoral situation will be better,” he said.
