POBNEWS24, Dhaka June 21, 2022 : There are only three days left till the inauguration of Padma Bridge. The waiting period will end. Officials of the bridge department are making final preparations for the main event to be held on the banks of the Padma on the occasion of the inauguration.
Secretary of the bridge department on Monday. A review meeting was held under the chairmanship of Manzur Hossain on the preparation of 18 committees formed on the occasion of inauguration of Padma Bridge.
According to sources present at the meeting, the committee engaged in distributing the invitations said that more than 2,000 invitations have already been distributed. It has been decided to invite about three and a half thousand people for the auspicious gathering and plaque unveiling at the Mawa end of the Padma Bridge. It will include cabinet members, members of parliament, politicians, experts, civil society representatives, government officials, journalists and foreign diplomats.
According to bridge department sources, many diplomats, including ambassadors of different countries to Dhaka, heads of international organizations and the president of the World Bank, will be invited. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is taking care of the matter. There are plans to allocate about 75 cards for foreigners. Invitations from political parties have been sent to their party offices.
On the day of the inauguration, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will take part in a gathering at Mawa end at 10 am. He will then pay the toll and unveil the bridge. He will later cross the bridge in a car and re-open the plaque at the Jazira end. Later in the afternoon, he will address a public meeting at Shibchar in Madaripur.
The ruling party Awami League has planned to gather 1 million people at a public meeting in Shibchar. According to party sources, the responsible leaders of the party are holding a preparatory meeting to bring leaders and workers from Barisal, greater Faridpur region, Bagerhat. The leaders of the party also want to hold public rallies from Dhaka, Munshiganj and Narayanganj. However, on the inauguration day of the Padma Bridge, the government has decided to stop the movement of buses and other passenger vehicles on the Dhaka-Mawa route. Ordinary vehicles will not be allowed to cross the bridge on that day.
