POBNEWS24, Dhaka June 24, 2022 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to visit India. On Thursday (June 23), Indian High Commissioner Vikram K Doraiswamy met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban office. At that time, he handed over the invitation letter of Narendra Modi to visit India to the Prime Minister. After the meeting, Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told reporters.
It is learned that diplomatic officials of the two countries are working on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India in September. To make the visit fruitful, there will be a ministerial level meeting between the two countries two days before the visit.
During the meeting, Sheikh Hasina proposed to conduct dredging in the rivers jointly with India in the interest of both the countries. He said a water reservoir could be ensured through regular river dredging.
Expressing deep concern over the recent floods in the Indian states of Assam, Arunachal and Meghalaya, Sheikh Hasina said heavy rains across the hills of eastern India had affected most parts of the north-eastern part of the country. The Government of Bangladesh is ready to work with India to deal with any such natural disaster.
In response, Indian High Commissioner Vikram K Doraiswamy said his country was also ready to help the flood victims in Bangladesh. Meanwhile, the Indian High Commissioner congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion of the 63rd founding anniversary of the ruling Awami League.
The Indian High Commissioner congratulated the Prime Minister on the successful completion of the much-coveted Padma Bridge. He said the newly constructed mega bridge would directly connect the two countries and increase connectivity in the region.
The Indian High Commissioner further said that a trial run has already been conducted to transport goods to India using Chittagong seaport and such trial run will be held on four more different roads.
The Indian High Commissioner said India would set up a company to supply electricity from Nepal to Bangladesh and invest in the construction of transmission lines.
