POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Aug 4 2022 : The court sentenced Noor Hossain, who was sentenced to death in the controversial seven murder case of Narayanganj, to life imprisonment in the arms case. The court of Narayanganj Additional District and Sessions Judge Special Tribunal Judge Sabina Yasmin gave this judgment on Thursday (August 4) at noon.
Salahuddin Sweet, the lawyer for the state, said that on May 15, 2014, law enforcement forces recovered a foreign revolver, eight rounds of bullets and eight bullets of a shotgun after raiding Noor Hossain’s house in Shimrail area of Siddhirganj. The police of Siddhirganj police station filed a separate case against Noor Hossain in this incident under Arms Act.
In that case, when the charge sheet was filed three months after the completion of the police investigation, the court accepted the testimony of four people in the trial process. Later, as the allegations were proved on the basis of evidence, the court sentenced the accused Noor Hossain to life imprisonment in two sections separately. At the same time, the court accepted the testimony of four people in two other cases filed against Noor Hossain on charges of drug and extortion. The court accepted the testimony of two policemen including the senior assistant superintendent of police in the arms case. Apart from this, a policeman testified in the drug case.
Earlier this morning, accused Noor Hossain was brought to Narayanganj court from Kasimpur jail in Gazipur through tight security.
On April 27, 2014, seven people including Narayanganj City Corporation Panel Mayor Nazrul Islam were abducted from Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road. The police recovered their bodies from the Shitalakshya river on April 30 and 31.
District and Sessions Judge Court Noor Hossain awarded death sentence to 26 people including three former officers of RAB in the case of this incident.
