POBNEWS24, Dhaka Nov 8, 2022 : The United States seeks equal opportunity for all political parties and candidates for free and fair elections. The US Embassy in Dhaka said this in a Facebook message on Monday about the visit of US official Afrin Akhtar.
Afrin Akhter is the Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of South and Central Asia at the US State Department. He left Dhaka on Monday after a two-day visit to Bangladesh.
According to the US Embassy, US Deputy Assistant Secretary Afrin Akhtar and Ambassador Haas met with the representatives of the three largest political parties of Bangladesh, Awami League, BNP and Jatiya Party.
The United States Embassy wrote on its Facebook page, ‘Free and fair elections must ensure equal opportunities for all candidates, including all political parties. ‘
US Deputy Assistant Secretary Afrin Akhtar held a meeting with Foreign Secretary Masood Bin Momen yesterday morning. The meeting did not directly discuss the topic of elections but various aspects of Bangladesh-US relations were discussed.
