POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Dec 8, 2022 : Political heat is increasing around BNP’s Dhaka divisional rally on December 10. Meanwhile, BNP supporters clashed with law and order forces. After this incident, the situation prevails in Nayapaltan area of the capital. The road in front of the office is closed to traffic. Only police presence was noticed throughout the area.

It is known that pedestrians are not allowed to enter the streets of Nayapaltan unless there is an urgent need. The road in front of the office is completely closed.

Police have set up barricades at Nightingale Junction and Fakirapool Junction in Vijaynagar to prevent any vehicles from entering the road.

The movement of locals is also being controlled at the workplace. The police allow pedestrians to enter after confirming their identity. Bag and body searches are being carried out. If the identity is not confirmed, they are turned away from the barricade.

Earlier, on Wednesday (December 7) afternoon, 1 member of the BNP was killed in a clash with the police over the blocking of the road by a crowd of leaders and activists. Several hundred were injured, said the party’s general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Besides, some media journalists were injured in the clash. Shamsul Alam Badsha, a photojournalist of Daily Ittefaq, received 5 stitches on his forehead.

After the clash, the police raided the central office of BNP around 4:30 pm. At that time, more than three hundred leaders and activists were arrested inside and in front of the office.

Among those detained are party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Dhaka Metropolitan North convener Aman Ullah Aman, campaign secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anyi, Khaleda Zia’s personal assistant Shimul Biswas, Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP convener Abdus Salam and party joint secretary general Khairul Kabir Khokon.

Later Mirza Fakhrul came in front of the office. At first he was prevented from entering the office, but later he was allowed to go. However, Mirza Fakhrul did not enter there and took a position in front of the office. He left the place around 8 pm.

Meanwhile, the BNP has announced a protest program across the country on Thursday. The announcement was made after the party’s standing committee meeting at party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, the president of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) commented that the situation in Bangladesh is like March of 1971. Colonel (retd.) Ali Ahmed said, the people of this country will never tolerate such terrorist activities of the government. Stop playing with fire. Otherwise the social situation will not be under anyone’s control. He said these things in a statement sent to the media on Thursday.

Oli Ahmad made this statement in protest against the police attack and arrest of BNP activists.

Addressing the government, Oli also said, “If you have honest courage, let Petua leave the army and the police and take to the streets.” Get ready to test the strength of the opposition parties. All BNP leaders and activists who have been arrested without any crime – I suggest immediate release and withdrawal of the case.
