POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Dec 9, 2022 : BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and BNP leader Mirza Abbas have been denied bail by the court in the capital’s Paltan police case. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jaseem Uddin’s court ordered this hearing today.
Earlier on Friday, the police produced them in the court. At that time, the investigating officer of the case, Police Inspector Tariqul Islam, requested to keep them in jail until the investigation of the case is over.
On the other hand, their lawyers applied for bail. After the hearing of both parties, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim rejected their bail application and sent them to jail.
BNP leaders and activists clashed with the police in front of the BNP central office in Nayapaltan last Wednesday (December 7). One person was shot and died. Later, when the BNP office was raided, the police said that many cocktails were found there.
Mizanur Rahman, sub-inspector of Paltan police station filed a case as plaintiff in this incident. Names of 473 people were named in the case and 150 to 2000 BNP leaders and activists were accused. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and central leader Mirza Abbas were arrested by the police and brought to court in that case.
