POBNEWS24, Dhaka Feb 11, 2023 : The death toll from the earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria last Monday has exceeded 24,000. Many people are still trapped under the rubble. Workers are working day and night to speed up rescue operations. The number of dead bodies is increasing as rescue work progresses.
Turkey’s disaster management authority said on Saturday that 20,665 people have been killed in the country so far due to the earthquake and subsequent aftershocks. On the other hand, 3,553 people have been killed so far in neighboring Syria.
A call to strengthen cooperation
Meanwhile, millions of people affected by the earthquake are waiting for emergency assistance. According to the United Nations, at least 870,000 people in these two countries need assistance on an urgent basis.
The agency has already provided food aid to 115,000 affected people in Turkey and Syria. In addition, the World Health Organization has already provided 72 metric tons of trauma and emergency surgery equipment. Germany is also moving forward with cooperation.
