POBNEWS24, Dhaka July 18, 2023 : A new Gilaf (kiswa) will be wrapped in the Holy Kaaba on the first hour of the Hijri New Year. The process of changing the gilaf will begin on Tuesday (July 18) evening local time. The Board of Directors of the two holy mosques of Makkah and Madinah said that all preparations have been completed to complete the entire program properly. 15 trained officers will carry out the entire work while keeping the quality of gilaf intact.

Amjad Al-Hazmi, Under Secretary General of King Abdul Aziz Complex, Gilaf Manufacturing Company, said that the work of making Gilaf of the Holy Mosque is done by highly skilled officials of the complex. People who have special skills in sewing participate in this work. After stitching, the gilaf is ensured to look beautiful.
Fahd Al-Jabri, Head of the Gilaf Maintenance Department at the Grand Mosque of Makkah, said that a 15-member team has been given special training on changing the Gilaf of the Holy Kaaba. Apart from that, special equipment has also been prepared to complete this work in an orderly manner. The members were introduced to the various stages of changing the gills with the help of seven cranes.
In the history of Islam, it was customary to change the gilaf of the Kaaba every year during Hajj.
When the Hajira stayed in the Arafa premises, the old gilaf of the Kaabah was replaced with a new gilaf. However, the Saudi authorities have changed this practice since 2022. Since then, the ritual of changing the gilaf started on the first night of Hijri New Year. 1445 Hijri year will start from today night in Saudi Arabia based on moon sighting. So tonight the old gilaf will be removed and the new gilfa will be worn.
