POBNEWS24, Dhaka Aug 3, 2023 : Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina commented that those who criticized Digital Bangladesh are now taking the most advantage.
He said this at the ‘Smart Bangladesh Task Force’ meeting organized at the Cabinet Room of the Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday (August 3).
The Prime Minister said that in our election manifesto we promised to implement Digital Bangladesh, we have fulfilled it. This time the goal of the government is to transform Bangladesh into a smart Bangladesh by 2041. The Awami League government has embarked on a journey to build a cost-effective, sustainable, intelligent, knowledge-based, innovative Smart Bangladesh by focusing on the four main pillars of Smart Citizen, Smart Society, Smart Economy and Smart Government.
Sheikh Hasina said, we were far behind in technology. After coming to power in 2009, now we are moving fast. People in our country can grasp technology very quickly. Now everyone has learned to use mobile-internet. We want everyone to become tech-savvy. We have provided computers at village level, schools in schools.
He said, we have experimentally arranged to pay various bills online. Now the people are enjoying its benefits. No need to stand anywhere with cereal as before. We have prepared people to move to advanced technology. But once upon a time, many criticized and satirized this digital Bangladesh. We did not listen to them. We have moved forward to realize our dreams. Today they are the ones who are taking the most advantage.
Awami League president said, we have arranged submarine cable for fast internet usage. Every telephone we had was analog. We were the first to introduce digital telephones. And mobile phones did not work anywhere except Dhaka and Chittagong. There was only one company, 10 taka per minute for mobile calls, 10 taka per minute for calls. From that place our effort was to deliver mobiles to the hands of people. Today everyone is running the Internet, speaking at low cost.
