POBNEWS24, Dhaka Aug 18, 2023 : A terrible fire has spread in the northwestern part of Canada. Residents are leaving the area in various ways to escape the fire. Congestion has increased at local airports and highways. Earlier, authorities warned that the fire was moving towards Yellowknife, the capital and largest city of the region. Al-Jazeera news.
The Canadian government said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau would convene an emergency committee, known as the Incident Response Group, to discuss the fires. Several regions of the country have been affected by fires for the past few months.
Authorities urged about 20,000 residents of Yellowknife to leave the city by Friday (August 18). People are also being evacuated from the surrounding areas.
“I already have asthma,” said Tiffany Champagne, waiting for a flight at Yellowknife Airport. But the situation has worsened due to smoke from wildfires.
Meanwhile, airport authorities warned residents to arrive at least two hours before the flight. Because the passenger traffic has already increased.
Recently, wildfires have become terrible in Canada. There are at least 1,000 active wildfires in the country. Of these, more than two hundred are in the northwestern region.
Premier Caroline Cochrane of the vast and sparsely populated region described the crisis as ‘unprecedented’. He urged the residents to remain calm and obey the instructions.
