POBNEWS24, Dhaka, Nov 11, 2021: One person has been shot dead in election violence between two factions of the Awami League in Banshgari, a remote char area in Raipura, Narsingdi. The man was shot dead in connection with the Banshgari Union Parishad (UP) elections in Raipur on Thursday morning. With this, seven people were killed in the violence centered on the second phase of UP elections in Narsingdi.
The deceased was identified as Md. Hekim Miah of Baluakandi village. Salauddin Mia (30). The deceased Salauddin is a supporter of Awami League’s rebel candidate Zakir Hossain in this UP election.
Police and locals said that voting is going on in Banshgari UP election from 8 am today. In this UP, the current chairman is choosing the party symbol of Awami League. Ashraful Haque. On the other hand, Zakir Hossain is in the election field as a rebel of Awami League. Salauddin was killed in the violence before the polls began.
According to the family members of the deceased Salauddin, Salauddin used to drive a CNG-powered autorickshaw in Konabari area of Gazipur. He returned home last night to vote in the election. He died before voting. They allege that Ashraful Haque’s men came to the house and shot dead Salauddin.
So far we have received news of one person being shot dead in a bamboo cart. I sent his body to the morgue of Narsingdi Sadar Hospital.
Salauddin’s wife Ankhi Begum said, ‘Cocktails were exploding in the area all night yesterday. A few cocktail explosions took place in front of our house at around 6 this morning. Salauddin came out of the house at the sound. He was then shot. When he fell to the ground, they left. ‘ Family members and locals rescued Salauddin and took him to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital. The on-duty doctor of the emergency department of the hospital declared him dead.
Narsingdi Sadar Hospital Residential Medical Officer (RMO) Syed Amirul Haque said, “The man was brought to our hospital dead. He died of excessive bleeding. His body is kept in the morgue of this hospital.
Raipura Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police Satyajit Kumar Ghosh said, “We have so far received reports of one person being shot dead in a bamboo cart. I sent his body to the morgue of Narsingdi Sadar Hospital.
