POBNEWS24, Dhaka, July 12, 2023 : The heat has been rising in the country’s political arena around the election for quite some time. So far it has been isolated, but on Wednesday (July 12) it is going to be visible in a big way. The ruling Awami League and BNP and other opposition parties have called a rally in the capital Dhaka on this day.
On the same day, a kind of heated situation has been created in the capital around the counter rally. As a result, the police are on alert to keep the law and order situation normal around the rally and to ensure the safety of people and property.
On the surface, in front of the BNP office in Nayapaltan and adjacent to Baitul Mukarram South Gate, a large number of policemen are deployed. If anyone is found suspicious, he is being interrogated. Apart from the uniformed police, detectives are also working in plain clothes.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) says that no one will be exempted from obstructing traffic in the name of assembly, marching with batons or disrupting law and order.
When asked, Paltan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Salahuddin Mia told Jago News that the police are preparing for the BNP rally. Additional police have been deployed in front of the BNP office beyond normal duty.
The OC of Paltan police station also said that strict legal action will be taken against anyone who damages property.
Deputy Police Commissioner (DC) of Media and Public Relations Department of DMP. Farooq Hossain told Jago News that BNP has been given permission to hold a rally in Nayapaltan under 23 conditions. On the other hand, Awami League has also been allowed to hold a rally at Baitul Mukarram South Gate, subject to the same conditions. Police are on high alert around the rally of the two political parties.
He said that detective police are working in white clothes without uniform. Police have all kinds of preparations to deal with any chaotic situation.
Motijheel Division Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) Hayatul Islam Khan told Jago News that police are preparing for the rally. Sufficient number of police has already been deployed at various important points. Apart from Motijheel division, police from other divisions have also been brought to the center of the rally.
He said that strict action will be taken against anyone who tries to sabotage or create chaos in the name of rally.
BNP will hold a rally in Nayapaltan at 2 pm around the one-phase movement to bring down the government. The police have added 23 conditions for the party to rally. On the other hand, Dhaka Metropolitan North and South Awami League will hold a peace rally at Baitul Mukarram South Gate at 3 pm. Like BNP, Awami League also got permission to hold assembly subject to compliance of 23 conditions.
