POBNEWS24, Dhaka June 29, 2022 : In the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Azha, it will be possible to provide 100% of the required sacrificial animals to the animals of the country. The country has more sacrificial animals than demand. However, due to the increase in the price of animal feed, the price of animal may also be a little higher in the market this time. The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock is in a strict position to stop importing animals as there are more animals than the demand.
This decision has been taken with the aim of increasing production and developing the country’s farms.
Talking to the concerned persons, it is learned that this year there are one crore 21 lakh 24 thousand 369 sacrificial animals in the country, which is two lakh seven thousand more than last year. This year, the demand for sacrificial animals has been estimated at 97 lakh 75 thousand. As such, there are 23 lakh 49 thousand 379 more cattle than the demand this year.
Even four years ago, a significant number of foreign animals could be seen at the Korbani market. However, the production of cattle is increasing day by day in the country. All the needs of the sacrificial animals are being met with the cattle of the country. For this reason, the import of sacrificial animals has been completely discouraged.
If you want to know the Director General of the Department of Livestock. Manzoor Mohammad Shahzada told Kaler Kantha, “More than one crore 21 lakh 24 thousand sacrificial cattle are ready this year. Last year, one crore 19 lakh cattle shoes were ready, out of which about 91 lakh cattle were sacrificed. We expect more sacrifices this year than last year as there are no restrictions on movement. He further said, “Among the sacrificial animals this time, there are 46 lakh 11 thousand 373 cows and buffaloes, there are 65 lakh 11 thousand 598 goats and sheep and there are 14 thousand 9 other animals.” According to him, with the launch of the Padma Bridge, it will be possible to take cattle to different sections of the south-west, including Dhaka, very easily. As a result, a lot of cattle will be supplied from these areas to Dhaka and other areas this time.
According to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, 65 lakh 90 thousand 742 cattle will come from six lakh 61 thousand 532 farms in eight divisions of the country this year. Of these, six lakh 37 thousand 198 are from Dhaka, 15 lakh 12 thousand 114 from Chittagong, 26 lakh 26 thousand 480 from Rajshahi, eight lakh 69 thousand 251 from Khulna, three lakh 64 thousand 543 from Barisal and one lakh 6 thousand 353 from Sylhet. 10 lakh three thousand 261 animals will come from Rangpur and two lakh 9 thousand 344 animals will come from Mymensingh. And 45 lakh 33 thousand 748 domestic cattle will come.
Mir Kashem Ali, president of Faridpur Dairy Farmers Association and owner of Marsh Agro, told Kaler Kanth, “Farmers have enough cows, there are many cows that were unsold last year. I have 35 sacrificial cows on my farm. With the increase in food prices, cows will be sold at a higher price this time. “Cows have already been sold for sacrifice,” he said. The cows that are being sold are getting fairly good prices. As we hope, this time the price will be better and the sale of cows will be more. ‘
Commercial livestock farmers say that despite adequate supply of cattle in the country, the price of fodder has gone up by about 40 per cent. Expenditure on livestock has also increased in other areas. So this time the price of the sacrificial animal will be a little higher than last year.
Shah Imran, general secretary of the Bangladesh Dairy Farmers’ Association (BDFA), told Kaler Kanth: However, the price of animal feed has gone up by about 40 per cent in the last one year, due to which the price of cattle may be a bit higher this time. ‘
Meanwhile, the recent floods in Sylhet, Sunamganj and other parts of the country have caused a severe shortage of cattle feed. The price of cow feed goes up. The effect can be felt in the sacrificial animal market. Although officials are reluctant to accept it. Sirajganj is one of the grazing areas of the country. Gouranga Kumar Talukder, livestock officer of the district, said farmers in nine upazilas of Sirajganj are rearing 9 lakh cows, 3.5 lakh goats and 200,000 sheep and buffaloes. One lakh 70 thousand 28 cows, two thousand 695 buffaloes, one lakh 92 thousand 46 goats and 25 thousand 520 sheep have been prepared for sacrifice, which will be sold in Dhaka, Chittagong and other districts by meeting the demand of the district.
According to the concerned people, there was no loss of cattle or cattle due to the ongoing floods and landslides in Sherpur. However, some pastures have been submerged and are facing food crisis. According to the District Livestock Department, no cattle died in the ongoing floods.
Fisheries and Livestock Minister Sham Rezaul Karim said, “We have become self-sufficient for sacrificial animals. As in other years, the demand for sacrificial animals has been determined. There are more animals ready than the demand for sacrifice. As a result, there is no doubt, crisis or apprehension for the sacrifice. The government is also fully prepared. He said, “The recent floods in different areas including Sylhet-Sunamganj have caused some damage to cattle. There, cattle feed is being provided by the Livestock Department and medical services are being provided. The issue of helping the victims is also being considered. Measures will be taken so that animals from other parts of the country can go to that area at the time of sacrifice. ‘
