POBNEWS24, Dhaka, May 20, 2022 : Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said that the anti-corruption commission (ACC) has filed a complaint against 116 religious businessmen and Islamic speakers in Bangladesh.
There is no basis for mass commission. If anyone disturbs in the name of mass commission, action will be taken against them, he said.
The home minister told reporters at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital on Friday (May 20).
Asked about the list of public commissions at the 26th annual conference of Lions Clubs International, the home minister said they had published a book titled “Terrorism in 2003”. I don’t know what is written in it. We have not seen the names of those who are responsible for terrorism or corruption, so we cannot say anything about it”.
Recently, a list of 116 Wajin (religious speakers) has been submitted to the ACC by the People’s Commission for Investigation of Fundamentalist and Communal Terrorism. The names of the religious speakers were published on pages 70 and 81 of the 2,200-page report submitted to the ACC chairman.
The people’s commission brought charges against them for destroying religious harmony through militant financing and waz (religious sermon).
Retired Justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik and Member Secretary Barrister Turin Afroz are the chairmen of the commission.
“We have been investigating for nine months,” said the then-retired judge. I have taken the testimony of many victims. The ACC chairman informed us that more than 50 waz traders have started searching for corruption.
Barrister Turin Afroz said that the activities of communal groups and Hefazat have come up. I expect them to be held accountable financially.
